Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
1/5
I enjoyed most of the apprenticeship the team were nice and helpful, there were many changes with the coaches, although there were nice. The customers could be difficult but I was supported to offer the best service I could, however when I struggled to pass my Maths exam I was asked to prove why I couldn't pass. I was tested for Dyslexia and found to have significant issues and was dyslexic, after taking this as evidence to a meeting as requested I was dismissed. I appealed and lost my appeal. I had worked for the company as a Saturday person prior to this. I have lost my identity and there was no support at all for a young person struggling with a diagnosis. Personally I would avoid at all costs if you are not a high achiever. For the record my work was described as excellent [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions].
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoyed being part of a team, although staff members were extremely worried about directors and higher management so agreed with anything to keep their jobs.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
1/5
I have gained transferable skills in Customer service [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Mostly online and many changes with coaches, could have been better managed
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
My Manager was very supportive however directors were not supportive and dismissive, I found the evidence to prove why I struggled with exams and this was ignored even though I should have been covered by the disability act.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Very little at first as coaches changed, toward my final exam this increased, however we were not aware of my dyslexia at this point
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
I have no qualification or job so I think that answers this question
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Once a year however I was not included as not 18 at the time.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Specsavers to a friend?
No
Why?
If you are able to get your school exams then the support is there to get your qualification, however no paid sick time, no benefits for staff. Directors who know you by name but are not interested unless you are performing and getting them money it is not a healthy work environment. This may vary depending on areas however I know of two other people who had different issues and neither finished their apprenticeship in the area, they left before it finished I only wish I had.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Specsavers?
Avoid if you need any extra support with learning.
