Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I attend agile meetings with my team (daily stand ups etc) and work on anything my manager asks me to do on slack. Recently I helped design a website and I’m currently working on Excel.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I massively enjoy the young professional community at IBM and attending events whenever possible. Working in my team on the project can be boring at times but this is heavily dependent on your preferences and what role you end up in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I’ve learned a lot about how things work in teams within a large business and I’ve learned a lot of new vocabulary.
On top of this, the degree has taught me programming and essay writing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
In the beginning of the programme, it is very structured as you go through a couple of weeks of induction. However, after this stage, it becomes less so as you may have to wait to receive your first role and from there it depends on the team. You get a lot of opportunity to make it your own by influencing which projects you work on and what you do.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is a lot of support available from the Foundation Managers, who look after your apprenticeship. This includes regular 1-1s as well as monthly team calls with your cohort of apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
You are quite isolated during the degree because it is all online so we rely on other apprentices a fair amount. However, we do all have meetings with success managers at the university to check on how we are doing with uni work. We can also book meetings with the course leads for academic help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are plenty of events to get involved in within the foundation community
