Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
In my current Software Developer role I work alongside the rest of my team to complete ‘tickets’ of work, investigate bugs, etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I am generally enjoying the programme at the moment but the university side often feels irrelevant to the actual job role and is too slow.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I am constantly learning new things and learning is strongly encouraged at IBM, not just for apprentices.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is well structured and organised but the system used to track off the job time for university makes it extremely difficult to keep track of KSBs
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is very supportive if I ever have any issues
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
There is lots of support to help with how to meet/document KSBs etc, and I have a skills coach with regular review meetings with them and my manager
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
The course content currently does not feel at all relevant to my job role, currently I haven’t really learnt anything new/that I have applied in my role yet.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, we have social events regularly at the office.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
IBM has a really supportive atmosphere and small community feel despite being such a big company; everyone I have ever met, no matter how senior, is happy to chat with you and wants you to succeed
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
Be yourself! IBM isn’t specifically looking for experience with this apprenticeship, but more your attitude and willingness to learn, grow, and become part of the IBM culture/community
