Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a digital producer apprentice on the branded team I get to work on many different things therefore my tasks vary depending on the campaign I am working on. I often start my day off with a team meeting where we discuss our current work or any campaigns that have recently been signed. I then will have a to do list to complete each day which my manager will set me at the start of each week. I often work on creating paper edits that are then posted on Channel 4's social media. Another part of my role is to come up with ideas for how we can turn a linear or long form piece of content into short and engaging digital content. I spend a lot of time creating fun decks to display these ideas and often get to present these to other teams :)
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the apprenticeship programme that I am on. I think it is very manageable if you keep on top of it and are organised. I have learnt about different parts of content creation which I was unaware of and spoken to people who specialise in these areas- allowing me to learn even more!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
0/5
I have learnt to edit using premiere pro- a skill I thought I would never be able to do. I can also create insightful yet creative decks and present these confidently to a group of people.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I would say the programme is reasonably organised. It has structure yet it can be altered to fit your needs e.g. if you need an extension on an assignment. I find this really helpful as it reduces a lot of stress and the environment is really understanding of each persons journey through the apprenticeship
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have felt really supported throughout my time at Channel 4. My team is so kind and my manager always makes time to check I am okay and my workload is manageable. I have found the environment to be very healthy and I have never felt overwhelmed during my apprenticeship journey.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My training provider has always made it clear that we can contact them whenever we have issues/concerns which has really eased the pressure. We have monthly sessions where we learn about a different part of content creation. These group sessions are insightful but also provide a time for the apprentices to reconnect and talk to each other which improves the learning process as we are learning off each others personal experiences too. After these sessions we are given a task and resources to work from. I think it depends on the task to see if you feel supported, as some skills are harder to learn than others, when doing it by yourself. So at times I have felt like I needed additional support but when I have reached out for help, it has always been given.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have gained knowledge around other parts of the business e.g. data insights and SEO therefore I understand where my role fits within the bigger picture. Having understood this I know how I can help my colleagues to produce the best possible work. I have also learnt about presenting and improving my confidence which means in my own role I can present my ideas to my team and improve my working relationships with them
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I have attended a few social activities however I do feel like this needs to be improved

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Channel 4 to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Having grown up in the north of England I was convinced that I would need to move to London to get into the media industry. However Channel 4 really changed that for me as it has allowed me to be able to have an amazing job and gain experience in the industry whilst still being able to live at home and save money for my future. The company is filled with highly skilled and inspiring people that I am really lucky to now be working with. Another huge reason I would suggest Channel 4 to a friend is for how amazing it looks on your CV. It is a strongly trusted broadcaster all over the UK and abroad so being able to say that you have been trained up by them at a young age is amazing
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Channel 4?
Be as creative as possible in your application and be yourself!
