Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role includes using a suite of tools for DevOps as well adding security tasks to pipelines. I create and provision cloud environments and deploy applications to the environment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it immensely. There is a huge opportunity to learn from a number of resources as well as apply skills in a work environment. there is a large support network and I have been made to feel very welcome.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I have learnt new skills in development, operations and security. I have learnt how to use a set of tools to aide me in my work which relate to cloud, deployment, CI/CD, pipelines, infrastructure as code and orchestration.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Everything has been laid out in detail. What is expected, what will be covered in the course and what the expectations are. When tasks are set I have support from my provider and employer.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

As much support as is needed. No matter what my issue or question may be, I have support from IBM and Firebrand and there are many options to get support for all kinds of issues.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider has been very helpful. If I have asked any questions I have a response almost immediately. They make it very clear what is expected and where I can receive help and what channels to use.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It is preparing me well for work within a corporate environment. Software development fundamentals allow me understand how teams work and other courses such as python and AWS DevOps add professional skills to use in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are socials run frequently for people in office locations as well as practice wide ones.

Why?
It is a great place to work and there a lot of resources to take advantage of. I get paid to learn and I can apply skills in a practical environment instantly.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
There is nothing to lose, you will get paid to learn new skills. If you have no experience, they will teach you. It is a supportive and safe environment. The apprenticeship route is a fantastic one, regardless of age.
