Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is 'service designer'. I'm responsible for understanding client pain points, challenges and opportunities. I then also create service design artefacts, such as customer journey maps, in order to display my findings clearly to the client.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy it. I've been given so many opportunities to try new role and work on new projects, there's nothing not to love about the variety of work I can get involved in. I think the only downside is related to work life balance. This is something that isn't rare to consulting, but it can be hard at times to balance the work, study and social side of your apprenticeship

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Firstly, blueprinting. I've learnt the fundamentals of blueprinting, such as how to display large qualities of information clearly on a customer blueprint. Communication is also a huge one - I've been given countless opportunities to present back to the clients on my deliverables.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well structured. We have an online learning path that shows us how far we are throughout our apprenticeship compared to where we are expected to be.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
A large amount in my case, I have mentors, foundation managers and buddies supporting me. The only downside is that support can vary across the company, some projects are more supportive towards apprentices than others
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We have received support around what they expect from us when going through gateway.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
There are a few skills that have been useful, but since my role is design based, not a lot is relevant unfortunately. I feel my time might be more usefully spent if I was doing design specific courses.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Lots! We've had Christmas boat party socials, a gatsby party, networking events with the MCA, and we regularly have consulting pizza and drinks after work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They have provided me with a lot of support, and I've been given countless opportunities. It's definitely a good place to find your feet in the corporate world!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
Be yourself, that's the best you can do! Make sure to be confident, but also ask your interviewer questions!
