Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As an audit analyst, my role is to audit the IT estate of the organisation in order to provide assurance that the controls in place are designed effectively and are operating as they should. If we find that these are not working correctly, we work with stakeholders to develop actions to remediate the issues.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The role is very different from anything that I have done before and as such, requires a change in the way I operate. I have enjoyed the different work environment but it is difficult to get a good grasp of the role when WFH. Overall, I am enjoying the programme but I would like more structure.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have a road map of IT qualifications I am working towards and have a number of knowledge/skills and behaviours I am trying to develop over the next 12-18 months. Alongside this, I am improving my knowledge of the audit methodology and writing reports in a concise and consistent manner. Outside of this, networking has been essential and something I continue to work on.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The apprenticeship scheme I am on does not align closely to the job role I will move into on completion. This makes it to difficult align the work I’m doing with the projects I need to complete for the apprenticeship. The training provided by Firebrand is organised well and the facilities are very good.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supportive and has been able to work with other apprentices who started prior to myself, so we can understand what we can do to work more effectively. They give me the time I need to focus on my apprenticeship work and have regular check ins to discuss my progress.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

They are supporting me well but I do think more support when completing projects would be helpful. I have regular check ins with my learning mentor and email reminders when I have forgotten to complete a task. Overall, I am happy with the support I get when working towards my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Whilst the qualifications and, to some degree the apprenticeship, is not aligned to my role. The technical knowledge I have gained definitely helps me to understand concepts and technologies that are being discussed when carrying out an audit. They provide a good base knowledgable from which I can progress onto more advanced courses.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a number of extra-curricular activities I can take part in. We have regular lunch and learn sessions, where different business areas provide insights into their area of work. We also have numerous social activities from weekly after work drinks, celebrations during cultural events and volunteering opportunities. We are encouraged to get involved in networking events as well to gain more exposure to the industry as a whole.

Would you recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
LBG is a great place to work because it has a very good people culture and everyone wants to help where they can. Most roles are flexible with a hybrid work style. The offices provide a nice environment to work and the pay and benefits are competitive. Finally, because the group is so large, you have the opportunity to apply to roles in new areas, should you want a career change.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group?
I would advise anyone applying to understand what the group does and what our goals are. Also, try to understand the structure of the group, especially the structure of the area you are applying for. Finally, make contact with the hiring manager during your application. A phone call to discuss the role, something informal but it shows you’re serious and will also help you prepare for an interview.
