Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working in the consulting team on economic development and strategic planning projects, including economic forecasting, market analysis and impact assessments.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given almost as much responsibility as a regular graduate member of the team - I never felt like I was given menial tasks. I was able get stuck in with the active projects the team were working on, so it was a great introduction to the industry.

I learnt a lot about planning and economic development, especially as my background was not in planning, and further developed my skills in report writing and forecasting.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Buro Happold has a great atmosphere, especially owing to its size. The consulting team is small so I was able to work with almost everyone in the group and was really welcomed into the firm. There's also good opportunities to get to know others on placement and graduates.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my time on placement. It was a really good introduction to the industry and exceeded my expectations - I was surprised by how involved I managed to get with some of the projects! I enjoyed it enough to accept a permanent position on the team.
