Summer Intern Review

- Working on live transactions, supporting the team in creating marketing documents which go out to prospective buyers
- Updating Excel models with up-to-date numbers
- Pitch research including finding precedent transactions and peers
- Joining in on and taking notes in internal and external meetings
. Over the course of the internship I was on one main project (sell-side transaction) as well as a couple smaller projects (a pitch, board meeting presentation etc)

How much responsibility you are given depends completely on gaining the trust of the people you are working with. At the beginning, I was given tasks with a lot of guidance as there is so much to learn. Over the course of the internship, as you demonstrate accuracy, sticking to deadlines and producing good quality work you are given increasingly more responsibility. By the end, I was heavily involved in the deal I was on.

I have learnt and developed many skills as the high-pressure environment is different to anything I have experienced before.
- Time management: often handling multiple tasks at once so important to prioritise
- Attention to detail: creating robust checks to reduce mistakes occurring
- Excel and powerpoint: most of my time was spent on these two applications so you quickly learn short-cuts and quick ways to do things making you more efficient and saving you time

At the start, we had a 1 week training programme which focused mainly on Excel training.
Once with my team, I was given clear guidance whenever working on something I hadn't done before and always felt I could ask questions to the people I was working with.

There was a great company culture, I worked with very friendly and genuinely nice people who made me feel part of the team from the beginning. When you are working long-hours, I really found it made a difference to be able to have a laugh and enjoy working with the people around you.

I had a great time, I was kept constantly busy and learnt a huge amount (probably more than the past 2 years at university!) making the whole experience extremely enriching. The internship definitely surpassed my expectations in terms of the responsibility I was given as well as the culture, where I felt the team wanted to see the interns succeed.
