Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a scrum master working on a cloud migration project in the banking industry. The scrum master role entails leading a team of software developers and ensuring their tasks are running on time without any blockers. In order to do this I lead daily meetings and present the team's work to the full project on a bi-weekly basis.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I love the programme I'm on at IBM as I've had the opportunity to work on a number of different client sites in different locations which has been really broadened my experience of different industries. I have also had a number of roles in different business areas which has really helped me understand how the business operates and shown me which roles I would like to pursue. Plus I've met amazing people!
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my Agile skills through completing the Certified Scrum Master training course and put these skills into practice on my client project. I have also developed my accounting skills through having finance roles in the past and completing financial training courses. The degree has also help consolidate these skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well structured, and I have a clear understanding of what needs doing within deadlines, however the workload can build up especially towards the end of the academic year.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Having a dedicated apprenticeship manager really makes me feel supported by IBM, as I have someone I can go to if I have any concerns about my uni work, or concerns about my day to day project if I'm struggling under a heavy workload.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive lots of support from my training provider. Catch ups with my uni tutor every term, plus they are always at hand if I need any extra support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Some of my uni modules towards the beginning of my course, such as communication, I found a little dull as I felt like a lot of the theory was a given for being in the workplace. Later in the degree, modules have been more interesting and challenging which I enjoy.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes lots of networking events, and the Corporate Games which is a large multi organisation sports tournament every year.

I feel like I have massively developed my personal and professional skills through the experiences I've been given at IBM.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
Go for it! Try as many different roles and you can and get to know as many people as you can along the way, you never know what might end up the perfect role for you!
