Infrastructure Summer Placement Review

Daily tasks included attending design meetings, issuing out drawings and sketches by using software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam, and populating reports based on the design that we have developed through the project's stages.

I was highly involved in a few projects and was constantly asked if I was happy with my workload, I could always ask for more or less. My drawings and calculations were used in client/external meetings and there were frequent meetings showing the transparency of profits made during the year. I did have autonomy to work on what I wanted in whatever order during the week which meant I had to organise myself.

I have developed my existing skills of using AutoCAD, I have learned to use Bluebeam. I have also developed my technical vocabulary by working with engineers who have previously issued out reports to clients.

I would have liked a but more guidance as there were some times were I felt like I was waiting around for feedback, but there will always be things to fill your time with (e.g: looking at the company's previous projects or asking somebody else in the team if they require a hand).

It was a very fun company culture, they had socials, everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. and I've never felt safer and more included. It's diverse for an industry that lacks diversity. The Young Engineers Forum was a great addition as we did events together and it was good talking to people our age, and there were inclusivity meetings covering topics like feminism and racism.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, especially because I had the choice to work from home and well as go to the office. I was provided with good equipment and it was a lovely environment to work in.
