Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Research- my research skills have been greatly developed through many tasks and projects. Some examples of things I’ve had to research include researching benefits trends, research on salaries and salary increases within roles and research for Thrive and Ethnic committees.
Attention to detail - My attention to detail has strengthened through performing administrative and repetitive tasks during my internship (especially when supporting the year-end process), where accuracy was essential. Regularly handling data entry, document formatting, and process checks taught me to spot inconsistencies and maintain a high standard of precision, even in very repetitive work.
Interpersonal skills - While I initially developed my interpersonal skills through university and my previous roles, my internship strengthened my ability to work effectively in both small and large groups within a corporate environment. I collaborated one-on-one with team members, contributed to larger projects involving more people, and frequently worked remotely with the Dubai team across different time zones. These experiences have enhanced my communication and collaboration skills in both face-to-face and virtual settings.
Hard skills
Excel – I have greatly developed my excel skills in this internship – learning formulas such as VLOOKUPs, creating and interpreting Pivot tables, and getting into the habit of using Excel to simplify and quantify research.
Compliance & Confidentiality - carefully handling sensitive e-profile reports and confidential information, including payroll data and personal employee details.
HR Systems – quickly learning how to use our HR platform TMX to interpret compensation data and HIRG Reward Hub create market data reports on. But also, not specific to HR systems, but other platforms as well such as Power BI to analyse data, Canva for creating comms, Microsoft Teams to communicate and schedule meetings and SharePoint to to manage, organise, share & access documents.
