Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Reviewing design proposals—ranging from furniture and carpet designs to sourcing new product replacements—means that no two days are the same when interning with Hilton. One day I might be on-site, and the next, working from the comfort of my home. My line manager is approachable, and I was trusted to work directly with designers, suppliers, and hotels to develop new design schemes for properties across England and Europe. A significant part of my placement also involved creating presentation materials to recap each quarter. I felt honored to be entrusted with such important documents, which also allowed me to hone my graphic design skills.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I gained a lot more than I anticipated, as I was always open to new or additional tasks to broaden my horizons. It was always up to me to accept a task or not—my manager and colleagues would check with me first to see if I had the capacity to take it on.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I’ve absolutely honed my interior design skills—learning to make design decisions more quickly while balancing aesthetics with functionality, and gaining a solid understanding of hotel standards. I also adapted to working in a professional corporate environment and deepened my knowledge of the hospitality business. Through presentation work, I expanded my graphic design skills as well. This placement taught me how to adapt quickly, work under pressure, and manage my time effectively. Since much of the work was remote, I was responsible for managing my own calendar—choosing whether to work from home, the office, or on-site.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Hilton to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Hilton
Firstly, having a can-do attitude is crucial—there’s always something we can do to support the team. The more tasks you take on, the more you’ll learn from the internship experience. Secondly, don’t be afraid to work beyond regular hours when needed. Taking on extra responsibilities and completing them well builds trust, and in return, you’ll be given more meaningful work. That’s where real growth happens.
