MI & Insight Analyst Placement Review

I worked as an MI Analyst, in the Dealer MI team. I worked on several projects, largely looking at scheme partner and servicing data. I was involved in every stage of the projects from data requirements gathering, to transforming datasets and building reporting, to delivering the reporting back to stakeholders and continuing to review alongside them. I spent the majority of my time building dashboards, communicating with stakeholders and learning to automate processes.

Yes! A lot of my projects ended up being business critical and with high visibility across the company. Yet, this was given to me relatively gradually and as I upskilled and built trust. I was also supported by management and seniors, so although definitely often out of my comfort zone, it was never too overwhelming and really helped to speed up my progression! I loved feeling properly part of the time, and never felt like I'd been given a side project.

Yes - so many skills! I had very limited technical experience before this placement so have hugely upskilled in Power BI, Power Automate, Power Query, Excel, OAS and MySQL. I mainly learnt these on the job, with a huge amount of investment and help from my team.
I also enhanced a lot of my soft skills, particularly my confidence, presentation & delivery, and my stakeholder management. I received regular feedback which which allowed me to continue to progress.

Lots of support! I was assigned a buddy and mentor which was especially helpful at the beginning to know who to ask all my questions to! I always had a senior allocated to me, which meant they could oversee my work and provide specific guidance. I received regular feedback from management, technical training, communication tips and everyone on my team was always very up for answering my questions and helping out.
We also had support from the learning & development team through regular development days, and also from the early careers lead who was always eager to help!

I really like that the level of authenticity and integrity across the company. People seem genuine which makes for a really positive culture.
I love that ultimately helping customers is such a clear focus, and has been central to every project I have worked on.

I really enjoyed my placement! It gave me a great experience of a career as a data analyst, so many opportunities to be involved in high profile projects, and has upskilled me a huge amount, both technically and interpersonally.
