Technology Advisor Review

I primarily work as a frontend developer on the projects that are assigned to me during the year. We have daily standup meetings and biweekly sprint reviews, retrospectives, and poker planning sessions because we follow the Agile methodology. My day also includes working on tickets assigned to me, which may entail developing a new component based on user needs and designs provided. This may entail collaborating with team members on a piece of work or talking with the client in order to deliver it correctly. Apart from that, I participate in volunteer efforts known as givebacks.

Absolutely albeit being a placement intern, I was given a variety of responsibilities. This trust has been earned by demonstrating to my team colleagues that I am eager and capable of learning new abilities. Despite the high learning curve, I adapted quickly and was handed complicated frontend development issues on select projects. Furthermore, I frequently get encouragement and support from members of my team, who are frequently quite helpful when I approach them for advice.

Yes, I have gained many new skills over the course of the year, primarily because the organisation encourages learning and provides a learning platform that is easily accessible. I have earned several news badges, including the IBM Agile Explorer, Enterprise Design Thinking Practitioner, and IBM Carbon Design System Developer Essentials. I have also received new credentials, including Apollo GraphQL Certification and AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification. In terms of soft skills, I had numerous chances to improve my presentation, networking, and teamwork abilities.

We were allocated friends for my department, who are normally associates who have gone through the same road as me, which in my instance would be someone who did a placement year at IBM and was in a similar function as I am now. We had frequent catch-ups to help me adjust to my new work environment, but it is also up to me to keep this friendship active. Aside from that, we have task managers that assist us with project management, ensuring that we are continually learning and improving as technology consultants. Team members from all of my projects have also been extremely helpful and eager to assist whenever needed.

The workplace culture was fantastic. Everyone is generally pleasant and personable. The flat hierarchy at IBM is one of its best features. You may approach anyone, regardless of their years of experience or seniority, and be confident that they will at least have a coffee or a discussion with you, if not more. Outside of business hours, there are several social events to attend, and people are often open to making more meaningful connections outside of the workplace.

This year-long assignment has its ups and downs. Overall, I have had a good time considering the experiences I have had, the skills I have learnt, and the contacts I have also established. I love it when my effort is recognised and appreciated by more experienced colleagues; it motivates me to strive for more. During slower seasons of the year, there were also possibilities for personal growth as well as the opportunity to explore new aspects of the business.
