Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I work as a mechanical engineer in the MEP Building Services division, working on the ventilation for one project throughout the entirety of my internship. On most days I work on the CAD software Revit, and use excel data and calculations as inputs.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Not so much- I mainly worked on internal tasks for the project and didn't have any contact with clients or suppliers.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt how to use software such as Revit and Bluebeam. My building services knowledge has also increased, when learning about LEED certification requirements and HVAC calculations.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Hybrid working meant that not everyone was in the office all the time. This made it a bit more difficult to settle in and put faces to names. However, the team is very friendly and accommodating.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have enjoyed my placement and getting to know the team. I do wish I had more variety of jobs to do, such as writing design development reports or prepare technical specifications and schedules as specified in the job description when I applied.
