Training theory and practical of being a gas engineer

My role consists of learning and developing essential gas knowledge in order to go out and serve customer needs in their homes.

On and off academy time and patch time. Learning about appliances and customer facing role

I am really enjoying my apprenticeship with British Gas. The training is outstanding

I am a service and repair apprentice. This means I spend time at the academy learning the theory and practical, then I go out on patch with a mentor and put this learning into practice in real life situations

Ima heating installation. I replace boilers, cylinders, convert from one system another.

Shadowing a colleague and slowly starting to work my way into doing jobs on my own. As a gas engineer there is a lot of skills involved such as pipework, plumbing, building skills like brickwork and electrical skills.

Installing new boilers and central heating systems. Working with gas.

When at training facility we learn new things everyday both in the classroom and practical. On patch we have a mentor who shows us how day to day tasks are performed and how to fit it safely.

The course is a mixture of academy weeks and weeks shadowing on patch. Academy weeks are focused on theory and learning best practice when working with tools and appliances. When out on patch the learning is real time ‘on the job’ experience, putting into...

Installing boilers and heating appliances to people's homes

Learning to work as a gas installation engineer

in the academy we get in for 9am. have around 2 hours worth of breaks. a mix of hands on and practical. finish at 4:30.

Going out with my mentor and carrying out service and repair tasks on broken boilers

Servicing and repairing gas boilers and heating systems in customers homes, as well as attending college on week release.

Split time between classroom learning at a facility specialized for our role, and out on field working with engineers at peoples houses.

Service and repair engineer for gas boilers. Traveling to customer houses and inspecting gas boilers.

I am learning how to service and repair gas boilers and heating systems. Working in peoples homes, making sure the heating and hot water is working. You work a mix of on patch and at the academy, hotel and food is provided while staying away.

On a day to day basis, I am either training in the academy or out working with my designated mentor.
