Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Shadowing a colleague and slowly starting to work my way into doing jobs on my own. As a gas engineer there is a lot of skills involved such as pipework, plumbing, building skills like brickwork and electrical skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Currently learning and developing new skill is very enjoyable, the work is varied and every job is different which makes every job enjoyable.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

So far I have learned about plumbing and piping gasworks and also building skills such as patching holes and brickwork.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship programme seems very organised with all weeks already set out and planned with what we are doing, coming from another apprenticeship where this was not the case this is very important.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer provides support to a great extent although I have not needed it yet.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider gives us all the support we need to achieve a job role within the company and would provide anything we need to get through it.

Why?
British Gas is a very involved and well established company and the work they carry out and the training I am currently receiving supports the claims they make. I would definitely recommend British Gas to anyone looking into a practical apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Centrica?
Make sure it is definitely what you want to do and if you do get into it pay lots of attention.
