Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a Recruitment Marketing Intern within the People team, my role focused on improving talent attraction and engage potential candidates. On a day-to-day basis, I worked on a variety of projects, including creating and reviewing recruitment marketing content such as our pathways pages, supporting social media and digital campaigns, conducting research and helping to promote the organisation as an employer of choice.
The role gave me exposure to both HR and marketing, allowing me to understand how recruitment marketing can support wider hiring strategies. I also had the opportunity to work with different teams and contribute to projects that aimed to improve the candidate experience and strengthen the organisation’s employer brand.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a great level of responsibility throughout my internship. I was trusted to manage my own tasks and contribute to projects independently, while still having support and guidance from my team when needed. I was able to take ownership of pieces of work, meet deadlines and share my ideas and recommendations.
Having this level of responsibility helped me become more confident in a professional environment and develop skills such as communication, organisation, project management, creativity and teamwork. It also gave me a better understanding of how recruitment marketing operates within a wider HR function.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Centrica to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Centrica

My biggest piece of advice would be to step outside of your comfort zone and get involved in as much as you can. Say yes to new opportunities, even if they are outside of your usual responsibilities, as these are often the experiences where you learn and grow the most.
Make the most of the opportunity to meet people across the organisation, get involved in different projects and build your network. Be curious, ask questions and don’t be afraid to put yourself forward. The more you get involved, the more you will gain from the experience and the more confident you will become.
