IT Project Coordinator

Describe your role and what it entails?

In my role as an IT Project Coordinator I managed Software Projects end-to-end. I worked with Senior Project Mangers to definite a projects scope, produce a periodised plan & work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design & implement the solution.

What have been your highlights?

My Highlights have been building the trust of Senior Colleagues to take on and be responsible for bigger and more challenging bodies of work.

Being afforded the autonomy to steer my development, meaning I was able to gain experience in areas I was curious about.

What have been your challenges?

Taking on more responsibility can cause baseline expectations to rise which can lead to an overwhelming workload. Prioritisation & communication were the key to navigating this for me, understanding hard vs soft deadlines and what the each task needs to achieve.

What have you learnt from your experience in the role?

In any endeavour something will almost always go wrong, you can't out plan reality, but if you can make a habit of being calm and adaptable despite a stressful, pressurised environment you will see success in whichever career you choose.

What advice would you give to a student following in your footsteps?

Seek out and make the most of challenging opportunities as frequently as you can. Placement years are hard to come by, feel much shorter than you're expecting and you only get one shot so you have to keep your foot on the gas. Remember to give yourself some grace, it is not supposed to be easy & write down your achievements, you'll want to remember them.
