Project Coordinator
At Computacenter
Placement (10 Months+)
Looking for a placement in my second year felt like taking an extra module; from rewriting CVs, tailoring applications, and navigating lengthy interview processes. It was challenging, but completely worth it. Before joining Computacenter as a Project Management Placement Student, my experience was purely academic. I understood the theory, but Computacenter gave me the opportunity to contribute to live projects from day one, taking on real responsibility and gaining invaluable hands-on experience.
During my placement, I have supported large-scale deployment projects, developing skills in stakeholder management, project governance, financial reporting, and operational delivery. Working in fast-paced environments helped me build confidence in managing complex issues, communicating effectively, and delivering results under pressure.
A key lesson I learned about myself is that I need to keep busy and stay challenged. During quieter periods between projects, I proactively sought new opportunities and became involved in AI and automation initiatives across the business. I think a piece of advice I would have is don't sit quiet, but rather, develop your connections and explore new opportunities within the business not just within your business area. Being at the beginning of your career, you are still figuring out what you want to do, and at Computacenter, you are never short of options.
One of the highlights of my placement was working with a Presales development team on an Agile project to create AI agents that support document assurance. Through this experience, I gained a strong understanding of Agile project management and developed organisational skills that I will carry throughout my career. I also supported the negative testing of the agents, contributing to a solution that will continue to evolve and help increase business opportunities through improved bid quality and efficiency.
My experience with the Presales team prompted me to start using Copilot and Power Automate to streamline processes and improve reporting. Despite having no prior coding experience, I developed automation solutions that increased efficiency across teams, presented these capabilities to senior leaders, and received company-wide recognition for my contributions.
During a placement at Computacenter, you not only develop professionally but also have opportunities to give back through the Early Careers team. I supported school outreach by running mock interviews and attended careers fairs to promote placement opportunities to university students.
In the last few months of placement and in my future career, I hope to continue driving innovation through AI while building on the relationships, skills, and experiences I have gained throughout my time at Computacenter.
This placement has been an invaluable experience, and I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported my development along the way. I would recommend a placement at Computacenter to anyone; it has been a rewarding, insightful and thoroughly enjoyable year.
