Graduate Project Manager

Describe your role and what it entails.

At Computacenter, I'm responsible for supporting and coordinating a variety of IT projects and service transitions. My role involves working with technical teams, customers, service managers, and senior stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered successfully. Day-to-day activities include organising meetings, tracking actions and risks, managing communications, supporting governance processes, and helping to ensure solutions are ready to move into operational support.

What have been your highlights?

One of my biggest highlights has been being trusted to take ownership of significant pieces of work early in my career. I've had the opportunity to work on large-scale IT deployment and migration projects, collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, and contribute to projects that have a real impact on customers.

What have been your challenges?

One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to balance multiple projects and competing priorities at the same time. In project management, plans can change quickly, and unexpected issues often arise, so I've had to develop my resilience and adaptability.

What have you learnt from your experience in the role?

I've learnt that successful project delivery is just as much about people as it is about processes and technology. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and relationship building are critical skills. I've also learnt the importance of being proactive, asking questions, and not being afraid to seek support from colleagues

What advice would you give to a student following in your footsteps?

Take every opportunity to learn and get involved, even if something feels outside your comfort zone.. Ask questions, be curious, and remember not to worry if you don't know everything from the start. I've been told throughout my time so far the importance of developing strong communication skills and that building good relationships will take you a long way.
