Accounting and Finance Undergraduate Review

My role includes assisting with month end routines, including file set-up and the accurate preparation, and posting of journals into accounting systems (liaising with the Shared Service Centres in Poland and India in the process).Responsiblities also include creating detailed Balance Sheet reconciliation, assisting with cost centre accounting and reporting, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, liaising with the Risk and Control department with Internal SOX Audits, assisting with accounts payable and receivable activities, Data analysis for the Finance Managers and assisting with ad hoc project work in the finance area

My placement has been a huge learning curve, but when comfortable with my current responsibilities, I have been given new responsibilities. I have definitely been made to feel as an integral part of the team. Even in my last few weeks of my placement, I have been given new responsibilities as a learning opportunity.

During my time here I have developed my financial analysis skills as this placement has provided opportunities to interpret and evaluate financial data to assess the financial health of an organization.
I have also learnt bookkeeping skills with the hands-on experience that is provided. This includes learning how to maintain accurate records of financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements.
Furthermore, my technical understanding of accounting software has improved, this includes SAP, Exel and other programmes.
In terms of my soft skills, as this is my first job in an office environment, as a placement student, I often work as part of a team and need to effectively communicate financial information to colleagues, clients, or stakeholders. I have also developed skills in written and verbal communication, presenting financial data, and collaborating with others to achieve common goals.

My team is very supportive of questions asked and giving me a full understanding of their division. I also have a very supportive line manager who has guided me to a better understanding of my role, and my future in the field.

It is a very friendly and accepting culture with a strong atmosphere of growth

Not only has this been a great learning opportunity, I have also been able to enjoy my role and work with such an amazing team. I have really enjoyed other opportunities to get involved outside of the business.
