Employee Experience Intern Review

The role varies from day to day as the focus could be on internal events, communications, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), charities, external partners and companies externally.
Work with the internal events will include managing and supporting planning these events from the booking of the spaces to the decoration and invitations. This is also where we will support with our communications team.
Work with DEI will include our employee resource groups (ERGs) at NBCUniversal and supporting them where we can, with planning out the year or discussing new initiatives.
NBCUniversal also work with many charities, including the Prince's Trust for an example. The Prince's Trust and NBCUniversal work together to provide two two-week long courses, teaching skills in the media industry and helping young people to get a start in the industry, this is an initiative the Employee Experience take lead with.

Yes, I would sometimes get the chance to take leadership on event planning as well as looking after various projects when others had annual leave, but I always had support with these when needed.

I have learned many hard and soft skills during my internship placement at NBCUniversal.
Hard skills learned would include learning new softwares including finance systems, campaign monitor, sharepoint - which assist with our communications - as well as improving my skills with PhotoShop, PremierePro and general Microsoft apps.
This role involves lots of communication, in person and on emails, so I have been improving my communication and confidence with this skill. Time management is also a very useful skill in this internship with such a varied role, so my time here has been very useful in developing this key skill.

The support and guidance I received during my internship has been very strong as my managers are conscious that this experience is very new to me and so I have always felt very comfortable to ask for help when I feel stuck or confused which has been essential.
With the guidance, this has been a very good balance of support and allowing me to become comfortable with leading and managing on projects, this is so useful and such an invaluable experience to bring to any future roles.

The overall company culture is very encouraging and open, there is also many places I felt as if I could go to for support. This ranges from my team to other interns and there are also NBCUniversal employees who are professionally trained in mental health first aid. These employees are easy to reach out to as there are multiple on each floor which is very comforting to know.
As well as this, there are so many internal events that allow people from very different teams to have an opportunity to spend time together and network which has made a very strong sense of community. These events can range from networking brunches to ERG events.

I have enjoyed my time at NBCUniversal so much! As someone who is very passionate about Film & TV, I am so grateful to have had such an incredible start to my career. There are so many reasons why I have enjoyed my time at the company. This ranges from making strong connections and friendships, developing invaluable transferrable skills, attending big events, planning events and getting to see how much the role impacts people positively in the company and overall learning more about my dream industry, but overall I have had such a boost in my confidence and feel so much more optimistic about my future having worked at NBCUniversal.
