Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Assisting the Carnival Production team with general production support.
Preparation of production documents, lists, templates, and trackers .
Organising, attending and documenting production meetings for internal and external teams.
Supporting the team with production applications – Dropbox, SharePoint, Scenechronize, etc.
Archiving production paperwork and data upon completion of shoot and post.
Assisting with the management of media, drives and assets.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Definitely. In previous jobs I have struggled with imposter syndrome, but the more responsibility I'm given, the less I feel that way. During my internship at Carnival, they found the balance of giving me enough responsibility, whilst also providing me with the training so I wasn't thrown in at the deep end. I was able to help out on set, manage assets and also was able to help out with anything my team needed support with then and there. This allowed me to feel valued as an employee.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes absolutely - I was able to further my excel skills along with my organizational skills. Working in an in-house production company means you get to develop your skills in terms of telephone etiquette, how to communicate efficiently via teams/outlook and simply how to work in this type of environment. These are skills I will take with me wherever I go next in my career as they are valuable and transferable skills.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I never felt I wasn't supported - I have a disability and I was never treated me differently yet if I felt I needed support, it was always there. Additionally, if I had any questions, I never felt I couldn't ask. NBCUniversal are big on growth, and I felt my biggest outcome from this internship is how much I've learnt.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Amazing - NBCUniversal is such a warm, inclusive and exciting place to work. There are so many fun events and cool experiences I don't think many other companies offer, especially to interns. Sometimes it takes a while to adjust and to feel completely comfortable in how you should communicate with your colleagues, as when you're new it take a while to figure out how things work, but once you get into the groove of things you relax and just enjoy what is such a great place to work.
