Product (Hayu) Intern Review

As a Product Intern at Hayu, part of NBCUniversal, I support the end to end feature lifecycle, from user research and design through to development, release, and post launch evaluation. Day to day, I collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and external development partners to help improve the streaming experience for users across multiple markets.

Yes, a lot. I was trusted to take ownership of features from an early stage and given the space to run user research, contribute to design decisions, and support delivery across platforms.

Yes, a huge amount. I've developed strong product management skills including user research, stakeholder communication, and data informed decision making. I've also built on my design and prototyping skills in Figma, and gained real experience working within Agile delivery across multiple platforms. Beyond the technical side, I've grown a lot in presenting to senior stakeholders and leading cross functional conversations.

I received an excellent level of support throughout the placement. My line manager gave me the right balance of autonomy and guidance, encouraging me to take ownership of features while always being available for direction when needed. I had frequent 1-to-1's and development meeting to align on what I was working on and areas of interest to gain experience during my placement. The wider team was equally welcoming and made a real effort to include me in decisions, meetings, and cross functional work.

The culture was really friendly and welcoming from day one. The team is close knit, collaborative, and genuinely enjoyable to work with, which made a big difference to my experience. There's a strong sense of everyone rooting for each other, and it never felt hierarchical despite working with senior stakeholders regularly.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I learnt an incredible amount about product management and the streaming industry, while also being part of an amazing intern cohort that gave me a broader understanding of the wider film and entertainment business through insights from so many different roles. It has been a hugely rewarding year both professionally and personally.
