Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I work with Primark's Employer Brand & Attraction Lead to understand attraction needs across central functions, supply chain and retail via regular meetings with Recruitment Leads and People & Culture Business Partners!
I assist in developing agency briefs, and manage live campaigns such as recruitment for new store openings, with our employer marketing agency.
I also manage the careers social accounts and create content for key areas across the business to tell our employer brand story - sourcing and sharing colleague stories.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of responsibility from the start, and myself and my manager had conversations throughout the year around my comfort in taking on more ownership over certain areas of my job!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have definitely developed my planning and organising, skills, as I work and co-ordinate with our marketing agency and lots of different teams.
I have also learnt new skills such as networking - I have had the great opportunity to meet and connect with people from all areas of the business, from other placement students, to more senior stakeholders!
Working independently and having trust and confidence in my own initiative and ideas has definitely also been a development for me throughout my placement so far.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
We had support in relocating from the UK to Dublin, which included help with securing accommodation, and an induction week to set everyone up with Irish bank accounts, how best to travel around the city etc.
Everyone I work with is so friendly and really want to help you if you have any questions, are worried about anything, or a bit stuck on a project!
I also have weekly 1 to 1s with my manager to talk over what I'm proud of/what challenges I had in the week.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture is great - there were 40+ placement students who all started at the same time, and we got an amazing 2 week induction with trips out, workshops on networking and other workplace skills, and a lot of us live in the same student accommodation - so even though we are all in different roles and teams, we still feel like a little placement community.
The Dublin head office we're based in is really nice too!

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I am 9 months through my 12 month placement and really don't want to leave!
Of course there are challenging days and it has been a huge learning curve, but i have really enjoyed every element of the experience - everyone has been so welcoming and I've learnt so many skills that I can't wait to take back to uni.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Primark to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Primark
My advice would be to do some research on the company, and also note down your own skills, where you have demonstrated these skills at other workplaces/in uni projects. Demonstrate how you showed leadership, and got through challenges!
Be really honest and authentic to yourself - let your personality come through, and don't be scared to say you're not sure about a question but will give it your best try!
