Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a trainee buyer on homeware my role consisted of reviewing trends, selecting appropriate and relevant ones, applying them to product categories. Product development, supplier communication, order management, and other admin that was key to business activity.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was immediately treated as a key member of the team with appropriate amounts of responsibility given to me throughout the year. I was assigned a buddy at the beginning of the year who helped to teach me all the key practices and systems, they also acted as a guide throughout the whole year. My responsibilities developed from taking ownership of a singular product to developing and managing the successful progression of whole ranges from ideas to landing on the shop floor.

At the beginning i was given multiple sessions of training on the key systems that I used daily. I was also supported by my whole team and external people throughout the whole year.

Extremely friendly and welcoming from the beginning, from out of work social events to daily interactions everyone's approach is based with kindness and respect.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I loved this year, although challenging in some respects I feel those moments where key to my growth and development. I have made so many friends and great memories.
