Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a trainee merchandiser we are responsible for helping out with ensuring that the right stock is delivered at the right time in the right place. Day - to - day varied massively, but main responsibilities included running weekly reports for trading information and ensuring products were on track to land in store when we planned them, as well as highlighting and markdowns

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was trusted by my entire team, and felt that I had a great amount of responsibility, enough to feel valued but not enough to overwhelm me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I've massively developed my excel skills, as I have used this daily. In addition general corporate skills such as my communication and teamwork have naturally developed over the year, as you work in small teams where communication has to be accurate and constant.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I had weekly 1 to 1s with my manager, which was a time for me to clarify tasks, ask questions and learn new things, whilst also being able to chat about my development and future career guidance. Additionally the wider team constantly support you and you never feel out of your depth.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture is built upon Primark's core values; caring, dynamic and together. This creates a supportive and fun environment throughout Primark, where everyone is working towards the same values. It's a nice atmosphere in the office, where everyone is friendly, welcoming and supportive.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, and It was amazing to move to Dublin for the role. Early careers do everything possible to make your year here as amazing as possible, as well as your team who want you to have the best year in and out of the office.
