Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?

Its a great firm with a huge support network. It has a lot of benefits that come with its size such as a huge range of opportunites for moving around job roles within the company and finding people who can support you in almost any area. The down sides of a larger company are that your career path is more dictated by time spent at the company in your role rather than how good you perform at it.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I provide engineering designs for a range of projects including HS2, Lower Thames Crossing and Sizewell C. I enjoy working with a range of projects as it gives me a lot of exposure and experience in different fields. I also enjoy working within my team who are all very keen to help and support me wherever they can.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
My team genuinely value my opinions and give me plenty of oppurtunities to contribute where possible, whether that be socially or in work.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

3/5
There are some added benefits and perks but most are targeted at those with families and dont really benefit graduates.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
There are lots of training opportunities. Some as part of the grad scheme are compulsory and sometimes seem a bit pointless but there are lots of good optional training courses too.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?

Yes

Why?

The company overall is great, with a lot of emphasis clearly put into ensuring workers are happy in their role.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

4/5
I applied for a different role but the one I ended up in is still in the same field and I enjoy.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?

Be flexible with your job role. The company is so large and flexible that you almost always have the opportunity to move business unit or try out a different role.
