Overview of the Role
Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
Being able to get involved in such an important infrastructure project this early in my career is great, the exposure to different departments and contractors has allowed me to gain a much fuller understanding of the industry and site I'm based.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My role includes assisting in the management of ecological constraints on site. These includes dust and noise as well as ensuring the drainage network on site is functioning as it should and that the surrounding watercourses are unaffected by our work.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

Our team is very busy so there is plenty of opportunity to get out on site and see the work being done and how it needs to be considered from an environmental sustainability standpoint.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

Balfour Beatty builds iconic projects and because of that it means I can get involved with nationally significant infrastructure. Being involved in large projects which includes several subcontractors allows me to better understand how business relationships are developed and how PCs like Balfour Beatty manage their work.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

I only started a month ago but I can already see the scale of investment Balfour Beatty puts into their projects and their people. There are a variety of training courses available through the early careers network and my team.

There are a number of social impact advisors across the projects which ensure they can maximise the social value delivered to local communities, businesses, and the wider supply chain. It's great to work for an organisation which holds CSR and social sustainability so highly and as a core part of their values.
