Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?

Great overall atmosphere. Everyone is extremely welcoming and friendly. The free coffee and breakfast everyday really boosts morale.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

Currently on my first rotation as an engineer manager. I enjoy taking part in design review meetings, updating weekly/monthly trackers and aligning the work break down structure with the programme. I've luckily been able to help out on two projects which allows me to gain valuable experience.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
This rotation isn't technical but it is still very much needed to ensure the programme is managed and design packages are finalised.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
The wage is definitely on the higher end compared to most graduate schemes, there is a great pension and share scheme plus the option for many discounted things on salary sacrifice.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
This company is fully focused on your career development. I've seen this first hand at ICE events and with the early careers team. Everyone is willing to help out if you have any questions or want advice on career development.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
Extremely happy with how I am developing in this new role. Being given tasks constantly allows me to further learn more about the role and be more efficient in my day to day.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
I've had multiple calls with HR, attended a few early careers events in different cities fully funded by the company. My line manager has been great with bi weekly one to ones and finally the other graduates and apprentices have been very welcoming and helpful when I've needed a hand.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
I currently cycle to work everyday and also go to the gym 3/4 times a week plus fit in a couple runs a week. The work life balance here is great. Very flexible.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

5/5
The company is extremely flexible. The general rule is to be in the office 60% of the time but you are able to work from home more if you wish. The company truly values an inclusive atmosphere by offering training and calls as well. From day one everyone in my team was very welcoming and happy plus supportive.

How would you rate Balfour Beatty initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
There is loads to read up on in the SharePoint, there is mandatory training and calls to take part in. The diversity within the company alone shows how important it is.

How would you rate Balfour Beatty CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
Every single employee is entitled to 2 full working days a year to allow us to participate in any volunteering/community initiatives which is just great for the local community. Very positive.
