Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?

my experience at Balfour Beatty has been developmentally critical in helping me become the engineer I am today. Through the support, guidance and understanding of my entire team, I have been able to develop key technical principles in electrical design and engineering. This experience has given me exposure to a variety of projects, particularly focusing on medium and low voltage substation packages, enabling me to apply my knowledge across different site and challenging engineering environments. The opportunities provided by Balfour Beatty have significantly contributed to both my technical growth and professional development.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

My main responsibilities are supporting the development of different deliverables in a project, such as producing technical reports, specifications, Trimble models for cable sizing, schedules, drawings and schematics including earthing, network architecture, SLDs, Block Cable Diagrams and many more.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
Contributing to each task has helped develop my skills across different software's and given me exposure to areas of work including DC systems and Communications and control.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

3/5
the benefit scheme is helpful for offering different benefits for physical health, mental health and social activities to better support you inside and outside of work.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

3/5
Through taken on different tasks and hosting lots of internal training within the team and wider company there is lots of different ways my superiors have helped to prepare myself and other graduates for becoming competent engineers. as well as being able to through the wider company be involved in the graduate programme which includes lots of opportunity to learn and connect with others in the business who are doing different roles and get the chance to learn what other people do within Balfour's,

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

3/5
I think I have come on leaps and bound since joining balfour beatty and my confidence has increased significantly through learning and becoming more competent within my role. however with getting exposed to something through working on it sometimes you can plateau in your learning. The company again does offer various different opportunities to gain more technical knowledge through different training in house.
