Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?

Overall, my experience since joining Balfour Beatty has been extremely positive. I've been trusted with a wide range of responsibilities much earlier in my career than I expected, which has given me the opportunity to learn and develop quickly. The support from colleagues and managers has helped me grow both technically and professionally, while exposing me to a variety of commercial and construction activities. The experience has been both rewarding and valuable, and has given me confidence in my ability to contribute to the team.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor in a pre-construction environment, my responsibilities include managing tender packages, engaging with suppliers and subcontractors, reviewing tender returns, producing commercial assessments, supporting procurement activities, developing cost reports and trackers, and helping manage commercial risk across projects.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
I feel I am given meaningful opportunities to contribute to the team and take ownership of key responsibilities. The trust placed in me to manage tasks independently, combined with the support and guidance available when needed, has helped me develop confidence and feel valued as a member of the project team.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

4/5
I believe the overall compensation package fairly remunerates me for the work I do. The salary is appropriate for my role, and the company car is a valuable benefit that supports both work and personal travel.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
I feel the role is preparing me extremely well for my future career. One of the biggest benefits is the opportunity to be involved in a project from the pre-construction phase through to delivery and final account. This level of exposure provides valuable insight into the full project lifecycle and helps develop a broad understanding of commercial management.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
The training and day-to-day responsibilities have allowed me to build on the knowledge and skills developed during my university studies. Applying academic learning within a live project environment has strengthened my understanding and helped bridge the gap between theory and practice.

How would you rate Balfour Beatty CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
I believe Balfour Beatty has a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. Employees are encouraged to get involved in volunteering activities through the provision of two volunteering days each year, and I have personally participated in several initiatives. The company also supports local communities through STEM events, school and university engagement, work placements, charity fundraising, and other community-focused projects. Seeing the positive impact these activities have makes me proud to work for a business that invests in both its people and the communities in which it operates.
