Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?
Balfour Beatty is a great company to work for and offers an excellent environment for personal and professional development. Everyone is genuinely invested in supporting your progress and helping you achieve your career goals. The culture is highly supportive and encourages individuals to become the best version of themselves. What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
As a Graduate Materials Engineer, my main responsibilities include carrying out a range of site and laboratory tests to ensure materials comply with project specifications and relevant standards. I am also responsible for sampling and assessing materials delivered to site to verify that they meet the required quality requirements. In addition, I provide materials-related technical advice and support to site teams when required.
What I enjoy most about the role is the continuous learning and development opportunities it provides. There is a huge amount to learn within the field of materials engineering, and one of the biggest things I have realised since leaving university is that you are not expected to know everything from day one. Much of your technical and practical knowledge is developed through hands-on experience and learning on the job. The graduate programme provides excellent opportunities to build confidence, develop new skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the industry.
