Geoenvironmental Specialist Intern Review

Site ground investigations (contamination, soil and bedrock logging, watching briefs on drilling and trial pitting)
Reporting (Analysing ground condition reports and site data and compiling data and information for clients)

During the internship there was the opportunity to visit site and get hands on experience alongside experienced site workers, this was where the most meaningful work was completed. There was also the opportunity to work on some active reports. A lot of the desk based reporting was working on past reports (filling out a real world mock report based on the information made available to you).

Developed skills relating to soil logging and analysis of ground investigation data. Built a better understanding of the processes of ground investigations and got to talk with and learn from a range of industry professionals such as drillers, site workers, and other geoenvironmental/geotechnical specialists.

During site work there was plenty of support provided and in the office there was almost always someone who could be contacted for support. In some situations it was required to follow up to get given work so it was important to reach out to Line Managers or other team members when tasks were complete.
There was a great network of other interns across different offices and a buddy system so you could spend time talking with other newer industry starters.

The company culture feels like it rewards hard work and generally values it's people which is especially good for such a large company. All the other team members I interacted with and worked with were helpful and friendly.

It was a really well rounded and enjoyable experience with lots of opportunities to learn new skills and network.
