Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role was to assist the Project Managers in the teams with any tasks they assigned me. On the day to day this includes creating and updating documents, updating schedules with new information from contractors, project sponsors or the Technical Standards team, sending emails with projector task information and following-up for their responses.
I was given tasks to improve the teams current compliance with client standards as well as find better ways to present their data to them.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, although there were restrictions on me due to me not having a National Insurance number and my security clearance took a while. The team had me constantly busy throughout the internship. My main task was solely my responsibility and required me to be in constant communication with other members of my team

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I learnt many new MS 365 tools during my work here as I had to present data in a lot of new ways. My powerpoint, word and power BI skills have developed a lot. The same can be said for my communication.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I got a lot of support from my buddy, line manager and other members of my team. I was never left stranded if I reached out about something, no matter how obvious it seemed.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The culture and atmosphere were great. I was allowed to work on my given tasks on my own terms as long as I met the deadlines. I was trusted to do my work and would be checked-in with occasionally by my line manager and colleagues.
The atmosphere was busy as everyone had many tasks and was focused on their jobs. But people still were friendly and open to conversation when approached. It was overall calm and pleasant.

What advice would you give to others applying to Arcadis

Depending on you role a lot of security clearance may be needed, ensure you have your NI number ready. Apart from that done be scared to reach out to anyone and ask questions, be bold and exploratory, it only pays off in the end.
