Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?

The overall experience is very welcoming, i can ask any questions i have about the role and get all the support i needed. I am allowed to expand my skillset and gain more responsibility. It has also helped me improve my communication skills allowing me to gain more confidence and take more of a lead in meetings.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy the increase in responsibility in managing my own asset, interacting with the subcontractors and talking to the site team to come up with potential solutions.
Some of the main responsibilities that i have are managing my own asset, drafting contracts & activity schedules, forecasting, leading meeting and developing trackers that are sent RW.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

I am able to input my ideas in meetings or conversations and have them acted on, make me feel more confident to share them. Also visiting site allows me to see the progress made by the site team and shows me what i have been working on is progressing.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

The benefits and perks are amazing, i love the company car as it helps me travel to all different sites and every 6 months you can change your benefits options, and this helps with dentist, health care etc.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

I am gaining experience in a variety of different fields in construction relating to the commercial aspect. Balfour Beaty is also helping me on taking my steps towards chartership either with RICS or CICES. I am also getting more knowledge on contracts and the different types able to spot potential risks and help to prevent them.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

There are a lot of training programmes you can join some are mandatory and they help to develop you understanding of systems and expand your knowledge helping to reinforce your sills. You can also apply for different training programmes if you would like to further develop yourself, and this can be quite easy to do especially with the graduate title as it helps to gain you more experience.

My line manager and the team i work with are very supportive in a multitude of different aspects. They support with work load & work life balance.
I also get support with any questions i have, helping me to improve in the work that i do. I also get praised helping me to feel more motivated.

How is your work-life balance?

I get a good amount of personal time, allowing me to game or go gym when i go home. It helps keep my mental wellbeing healthy.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

Balfour Beatty are very inclusive and don't judge on appearances as i used to dye my hair etc. They also have the golden rules, which help keep you safe. The atmosphere is also friendly.

How would you rate Balfour Beatty CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

They did a fun run at Lemington spa, as well as a football tournament and BBQ.
