Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

3/5
Very variable dependent on management. I think managers genuinely struggle to know what to give apprentices, and this results in being given repetitive admin or being overworked and there’s often little in between. However if you have a great manager you will find the work excellent

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

2/5
Only the future progression keeps myself and many others on the programme. The degree is awful, as it is based on content from CISI textbooks rather than being an actual finance degree, and the lecturers dnot engage you whatsoever generally just reading out slides that are regurgitating the textbook, could be AI and would make no difference
Near to zero budget for any apprenticeship social events or opportunities to bond beyond a week and a half in Exeter throughout the entire 4 years. This leads to a highly segregated cohort for many years, despite all getting on well at the start during induction when we actually had opportunities to get to know one another.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

4/5
Again, variable on management.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

2/5
University Support is appallingly bad and organisation is a foreign concept to the university seemingly.
JPM is generally excellent is anything comes up.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

2/5

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

1/5
Degree is dated and not related to modern finance outside of specific roles that are operations based.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
Yes, however I think many apprentices feel out of place at these and so it would be beneficial to have some for apprentices only that are not just company wide.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend J.P. Morgan to a friend?

Yes

Why?

If the education aspect improves this could be a great scheme, as while the social aspect isn’t great this is sort of to be expected at a US bank.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan?

Ensure you have a realistic expectation of what the role will entail and do not assume it’s going to be the same as working as a graduate.
