Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Balfour Beatty?

Working at Balfour Beatty has been a great experience. I work in the Ground engineering section and am exposed to a large project to really expand into my role.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

Document keeping and controlling operations on site.
Getting out of the office on site. Variety in my tasks. Opportunity to learn.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
I have been responsible for organising works and keep all the records for the works that have happened.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
6 monthly pay rises. Company car. Other benefits to sign up to. Expenses and hotels when away from home.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
Exposed to the working site. Can feel thrown in at the deep end at the start but you pick it up quickly.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
Early careers training sessions introducing you to what you need to know. Pick things up informally on site or through mentoring off other engineers.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
My line manager has been great at supporting me and when life happens. I haven't had to use anything else.

How is your work-life balance?

4/5
Working away from home makes socialising more difficult but I still make time to socialise with colleagues and go gym.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
Culture is opening and welcoming and understanding that you are new to everything. Against working from home but understandable for the type of job. Can be difficult when changing their mind on policies about working away from home.

How would you rate Balfour Beatty initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
All of the above haven't seen them not be.

How would you rate Balfour Beatty CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5
On top of environmental and ethics. Haven't seen much pushed for volunteering or social initiatives.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Good pay compare to other roles with good perks also. Learning at graduate level is strong and don't mind signing you up to training.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

3/5
Communication was poor before joining. Once inside much better however. Learning plenty though

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?

Be patient they respond eventually
