Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
On the first day, two other girls and I were asked to prepare a short stock pitch on whether Zalando was a buy or sell in the medium term. We worked together to gather information and presented to wealth managers. We heard about different aspects of investment management across both days, for example ESG concerns, hedge funds and the five sectors of Man Group.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very interesting as I learnt about the five sectors: AHL, GLG, numeric, GPM and FRM. It was a shame they did not do placement opportunities as I would have loved to apply. I learnt about the graduate roles offered straight from the graduate students themselves that were working there.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I leant how to prepare and present a stock pitch on a beginner level. I learnt what needed to be included and how to structure one. I also gathered knowledge around company specifics and also general investment information, for example, what gives a company a good ESG rating and also what a hedge fund is.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It seemed really positive. On both days we had lunch with graduates and they were very enthusiastic about the company and explained how you rotated across the sectors of the group to find out where you fitted best. The senior members of staff were happy to come and talk to us as well, which shows their concern for training and development. Everyone seemed happy at work.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the insight as I learnt a lot. For example, on the final day we learnt of psychology around investments which was very interactive and really engaged me. I was really sad when the insight days finished as I enjoyed the company culture and hearing about life as investment managers.
