Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Supporting the launch quality engineer in launching a new program into FIS fradley. Included 3D scanning of components and comparing to CAD, flammability testing as well as peel tests and gauge R&R studies & capability studies

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a fair bit of responsibility once I was settled into the plant and knew the general business function. I was also given additional responsibilities once I was trusted to get the job done and when my superiors believed I was ready for it. For me it was quite early on.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt both soft skills and technical skills related to my job. This includes communication as well as time management but also the ability to use 3D scanning devices and the software to go with it. As well as this I was trained to conduct flammability testing and bonded strength testing which was transferable to my program. Also professionalism which led to me speaking directly with the customer.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I was given guidance and support all throughout my placement and was not scared to ask for help. This was mainly due to the fact that I was able to build a friendship with my supervisor very early on and so I wasn’t ever afraid to ask for help.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Atmosphere was very good and welcoming at all times throughout my placement. We were often given time to do social things through charity challenges and also team breakfasts which helped build team relationships etc

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I loved my placement as everyday was a new day for me to learn. Part of this came from the ability to work on a new project so everyone was learning together and we’d all come together to help each other.
