FES&P Lean Manufacturing Placement Student Review

FES is Forvia’s own take on the toyota production manufacturing systems. Day to day involved studying and developing training systems to help coach and adhere to these FES standards, Analysis on productivity savings and improvements available as well as correctional actions for underperformance, using coding simulations and CAD to simulate shop floor setup as a basis for improvements, and managing digital tools used across the plant and introducing new technologies to the business.

Yes, responsibility is earned however which i had demonstrated during my first project to confirm the CAD plant layout was up to date by showing excellent management of this project by providing consistent feedback and transparency about the situation. This lead to my responsibilities to grow and me to chose my own areas of improvement and projects. This eventually lead to me leading Hoshin improvement activities. I also became the owner and author of many automated digital reports and forecasting processes

I have significantly improved my excel skills, my CAD capabilities, my teamwork and communication, and my professionalism.
These are all transferable skills that i apply day to day in my placement and are needed to effectively deliver good results

Support was offered throughout my placement with my manager and the engineer in my team offering me support whenever i asked. Training was slightly informal however Forvias Learning Lab was extremely useful in developing manufacturing and engineering skills at your own pace

The manufacturing atmosphere is layed back with periods of intensity. Every day is a different challenge so you have to be adaptable. The culture is very focused on good results and corrective action where necessary

I enjoyed my placement to a large extent, it’s a give and take so you have to be committed in order to enjoy
