Human Resources student Review

My placement followed an administrative approach which largely focused on preparing and finalising documentation which will be distributed to employees via letter and email format, alongside coordinating employee engagement events to boost morale as well as various recruitment activities throughout the year. My daily responsibilities involved preparing invite and outcome letters for the purposes of absence management, conducting daily interviews for temporary positions and monthly interviews for permanent positions.

I was given various amounts of autonomy throughout my placement through having a structured set of responsibilities which were at the core of my role for daily, weekly and annual completion. This ensured I developed my knowledge and progressed professionally as my placement continued. My line manager continued to add to my responsibilities, while assessing my capabilities ensuring workload was manageable.

I have developed my confidence and public speaking skills by working with various key stakeholders such as candidates, management and visitors. My knowledge of HR functions with regards to understanding legislations, remaining compliant with GDPR and Right to Work documentation has excelled. I have also developed my organisational skills ensuring my routine supports the team with completing individual tasks.

I received numerous amounts of support and guidance from my colleagues while also being given lots of autonomy to grow confidence in my skills. My line manager arranged quarterly reviews to monitor my progress and set professional goals. Daily TOP5 meetings ensured the team could discuss their priorities for that day and discuss any queries. The organisational culture focuses on maintaining open communication and teamwork for continuous improvement as a plant and professionals.

The company culture was goal oriented and supportive with open communication being prioritised. Focusing on employee engagement activities ensures morale was boosted creating an enjoyable environment.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement due to the professional and personal support received. I was given various responsibilities which provided a sense of achievement and passion to succeed. Working in a professional environment made me appreciate each role with a business to ensure it functions positively.
