First Year Insight Day Review

The insight day began with a welcome and icebreaker session, followed by presentations from partners and trainees that provided an overview of the firm, its culture, and life as a trainee solicitor. We also enjoyed a trainee-led office tour and networking lunch before attending practice area talks, including a session on the Projects and Energy Transition team. The afternoon focused on developing commercial awareness, exploring the firm's innovation initiatives and the impact of AI on the legal profession, and concluded with an applications workshop offering guidance on the recruitment process.

Learning about the firm's business and the roles available was both inspiring and eye-opening. In particular, the session on the Projects and Energy Transition team introduced me to an area of law I had not previously explored. It helped me understand how the sector is shaped by commercial developments and global challenges, which sparked a genuine interest in the work. The session on vacation schemes and training contracts was also extremely valuable, as it gave me a clearer understanding of the application process and what Ashurst looks for in prospective trainees. It also provided an opportunity to ask questions and gain practical insight into the skills and qualities needed to succeed.

Although the legal profession is often perceived as highly competitive, everyone I met was welcoming and supportive. Through the scheme, I formed genuine friendships that I did not expect to make, and I am confident those connections will continue even as we pursue different paths.
