Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My internship at Enterprise Rent-A-Car has been an incredibly valuable experience, both professionally and personally. Throughout my time at the Kinsale Road branch, I have developed a strong understanding of the daily operations of a busy mixed branch, serving both replacement and retail customers.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is the importance of delivering outstanding customer service. By consistently applying the principles of Confirmation, Clarity, and Closure, I have seen how effective communication builds trust with customers and contributes to high SQi performance. This experience has improved my confidence in dealing with a wide range of customer situations and strengthened my communication skills.
The internship has also allowed me to develop my commercial awareness. I have gained experience in identifying customers’ needs, recommending appropriate products and services, and understanding how sales contribute to branch profitability. Working in a competitive environment, including branch sales competitions, has motivated me to improve my performance while learning from experienced colleagues.
The supportive culture at Kinsale Road has been one of the highlights of my internship. The team continually encourages one another to improve, celebrate successes, and work towards career goals such as Champions Club, Operations Club, Assistant Manager, and Branch Manager. This positive environment has helped me grow in confidence and develop as a future business leader.
Working during a period when the branch achieved its highest rent level has given me valuable insight into managing high workloads while maintaining excellent customer service. I have learned the importance of teamwork, adaptability, time management, and maintaining high standards even during busy periods.
Overall, this internship has strengthened my leadership, communication, sales, and problem-solving skills. It has confirmed my interest in pursuing a long-term career with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and I feel better prepared to take on greater responsibility and continue developing within the business.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Throughout my internship, I was entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities that allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the day-to-day operations of the Kinsale Road branch. My role included serving customers throughout the rental process, preparing and inspecting vehicles, coordinating vehicle deliveries and collections, managing reservations, and resolving customer queries in a professional and efficient manner. I was also responsible for ensuring every customer interaction followed Enterprise’s principles of Confirmation, Clarity, and Closure, helping to deliver a positive customer experience and support the branch’s SQi performance. In addition, I actively contributed to branch sales by identifying customer needs, promoting relevant protection products and upgrades, and supporting the team in achieving branch targets. Being trusted with these responsibilities developed my confidence, strengthened my communication and organisational skills, and gave me a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to successfully operate a busy, customer-focused branch.

Throughout my internship, I have developed a wide range of skills that have prepared me for a future management career. Working in a fast-paced branch environment has strengthened my communication, customer service, and problem-solving abilities, while also improving my confidence in dealing with a variety of customers and situations. I have developed strong organisational and time management skills by balancing multiple responsibilities and adapting to changing priorities throughout the day. The internship has also enhanced my sales skills, teaching me how to identify customer needs and confidently recommend products that add value to their rental experience. In addition, working closely with my colleagues and managers has improved my teamwork, leadership, and professionalism, while reinforcing the importance of accountability, attention to detail, and delivering consistently high standards of service.

Throughout my internship, I have benefited greatly from the support and guidance provided by my colleagues and managers, which has played a key role in my development. Working in a fast-paced branch environment, I have been encouraged to build my communication, customer service, and problem-solving abilities, while gaining confidence in handling a variety of customers and situations. The consistent feedback and mentorship I received helped me strengthen my organisational and time management skills, allowing me to balance multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities throughout the day.
The guidance from my team has also been instrumental in developing my sales skills, as I learned how to identify customer needs and confidently recommend products that enhance their rental experience. Additionally, the supportive environment has helped me grow in teamwork, leadership, and professionalism, while reinforcing the importance of accountability, attention to detail, and maintaining high standards of service.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my internship has been experiencing Enterprise’s positive and supportive company culture. From my first day, I was made to feel like a valued member of the team and was encouraged to take on responsibility while knowing that support was always available when needed. The culture at the Kinsale Road branch is built on teamwork, respect, and continuous development, with colleagues constantly supporting one another to achieve both individual and branch goals. Managers take an active role in coaching and mentoring employees, providing regular feedback and creating opportunities for personal and professional growth. There is a strong emphasis on recognising success through initiatives such as Champions Club and Operations Club, which motivates employees to continually improve their performance. This positive culture has created an environment where I have felt encouraged to learn, challenge myself, and develop the skills and confidence needed for a successful career with Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Overall, my internship at Enterprise Rent-A-Car has been an extremely rewarding and valuable experience. It has allowed me to develop professionally and personally by giving me real responsibility, exposure to a fast-paced business environment, and the opportunity to work alongside a supportive and experienced team. I have gained valuable skills in customer service, communication, sales, teamwork, and leadership, while developing a greater understanding of how a successful branch operates. This experience has strengthened my confidence, reinforced my ambition to pursue a management career with Enterprise, and provided me with a strong foundation for my future professional development.
