Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Throughout my placement, I was given a high level of responsibility and ownership, particularly for an undergraduate role. Over time, I progressed from supporting tasks to independently managing key areas of the Honda UK website and digital operations.
I was trusted with end-to-end delivery of website updates and content changes, taking ownership of tasks from briefing and implementation through to testing and going live. This included managing a significant volume of website activity, as evidenced by the large number of completed tasks and page updates assigned directly to me, covering areas such as product pages, finance content, FAQs, electric vehicle content, and core customer journey pages.
I played an active role in BAU (business-as-usual) and campaign delivery, working on live projects such as offer page rollouts, FAQ creation, and new page builds, often coordinating with internal stakeholders and external agencies to meet deadlines.
In addition to execution, I was given responsibility for analysis and optimisation activities, including content performance analysis (e.g. Content Square insights), SEO improvements, and contributing to technical SEO audits. This demonstrates the trust placed in me to not only deliver tasks but also contribute to improving performance and strategy.
A key area of ownership was the ongoing management of core website sections and content, including blog updates, page refreshes, and maintaining data accuracy across multiple models and campaigns. I regularly handled multiple tasks simultaneously across different priorities, balancing urgent fixes, campaign launches, and long-term improvements.
Importantly, I also took on responsibility beyond execution by managing relationships with stakeholders and suppliers, ensuring tasks progressed efficiently through briefing, feedback, and sign-off stages. This required confidence, communication, and accountability when working across teams.
Overall, I was given a significant level of autonomy and accountability, with responsibility not only for delivering tasks but for ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely execution across a critical digital sales platform. This level of ownership has been key in developing my confidence, organisation, and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced commercial environment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

During my placement, I have both developed existing skills and gained a range of new capabilities across digital commerce and marketing.
I significantly strengthened my organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, regularly coordinating with internal teams and external agencies to manage briefs, feedback, and approvals. I also improved my ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced commercial environment.
From a technical perspective, I developed strong proficiency in website content management, and digital campaign execution, taking ownership of tasks across the full delivery lifecycle. I also enhanced my Excel and data analysis skills, supporting reporting and using performance data to inform decisions.
In addition, I built new expertise in SEO, AEO, and GEO best practices, as well as a broader understanding of e-commerce optimisation and the end-to-end digital customer journey. My responsibility for maintaining website content, including the blog, further strengthened my attention to detail and content optimisation skills.
Overall, the placement has enabled me to become more proactive, adaptable, and commercially aware, with a stronger understanding of how digital activity drives business performance.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a strong and consistent level of support throughout my placement. I had weekly 1–2–1 meetings with my manager, which provided regular guidance, progress check-ins, and an opportunity to discuss ongoing work and challenges.
In addition, quarterly PDP (Personal Development Plan) reviews were in place to track my performance against objectives and identify key areas for further development. This structured approach ensured I had clear goals and continuous feedback throughout the year.
While support was always available, I was also encouraged to take ownership of my responsibilities. Over time, this created an effective balance between guidance and autonomy, enabling me to build confidence, develop my skills, and contribute independently to the team.
