Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

I got to sit in two seats over the course of the 2 weeks: 1) ECMA 2) Patents. Assessments included a group presentation and a MCQ, one assessment took place in the 1st week and the one in the 2nd week. Over the two weeks there were organised talks and sector-focus sessions from associates and partners throughout the firm. There was also two socials and a trainee lunch, so that the vacation scheme interns could ask any questions that we had. Day-to-day, you were given tasks from your supervisor and buddy. Overall, it was a very well organised scheme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes. As a non-law student, I have learned more about the operations of a law firm, and the specific workings of different departments. I also learned basic technicalities of specific agreements and contracts that are used at the firm, through tasks like proofreading and editing/reviewing. On top of this, I got to network with clients and understand their business, through networking events and the assessed group presentation on a client.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Kind and friendly! All of the partners and senior associates were more than happy to sit down and talk to the vacation scheme students! Trainees were welcoming, early talent were kind and helpful and everyone in the office was always willing to help and explain tasks. Overall, the scheme proved the firm really is friendly and the culture is not hierarchical (like other highly ranked law firms).
