Vacation Schemer Review

Sat within two seats in the firm, having been assigned a supervisor and trainee buddy to help integrate well. Daily activities involved tasks assigned mainly by our supervisor, including research tasks, drafting and cross-checking work. We were also given a number of focus sessions from different departments, giving us the opportunity to engage and ask questions in areas we otherwise might not have been in. We also had the chance to set up informal coffee chats with other individuals across the firm, as well as socials organised by the team outside of work.

I really enjoyed learning about the different practice areas, who all spoke to us about their areas in focus sessions. These sessions allowed us to understand the kind of work that each area does and how it connects to other areas, but also gave us insights on the work available at all levels from trainee to partner. Where we wanted to learn more about certain areas, informal chats with different individuals was very beneficial, as it gave the time to learn more about the firm in the short space of two weeks.

The scheme gave me the opportunity to develop my understanding of certain areas of law, as well as how to go about researching tasks or drafting agreements accurately. It also helped in developing time management, networking and presentation skills.

Everyone in the teams were welcoming and friendly, willing to speak about anything from the work their doing to their career paths. There were frequent events to network at and have fun, providing a very positive atmosphere to work in.

I thoroughly enjoyed the two weeks, and found it very enjoyable to learn about the kind of work I could be doing.
