Summer Vacation Scheme Review

We sat in two seats during the scheme, one seat per week. On a day-to-day basis the experience consisted of organised talks and presentations by teams within the firm, trainee talks, and client talks. Additionally, we completed delegated work within our allocated seats which was overseen by our supervisors. The scheme also consisted of networking events and socials.

The scheme was incredibly insightful in enabling me to understand the firm and whether this is somewhere I would like to work. I was able to speak to people at all levels at the firm and learn about what both the training and progression is like.

The company culture was top-standard. It is very common within the legal industry for firms to be set up in a very hierarchical manner; this was not the case at Winston Taylor. I felt I could talk to people at all levels in the firm, and everyone was very inviting to questions and general conversation. This really enabled me to learn a lot from people and it also made me relax into the scheme more and I feel the quality of my work was better as a result of this.
The firm sees to view its employees as valued members of the team rather than cogs in a wheel. As a result, the team works well together and produces phenomenal legal and commercial outcomes for clients. From this basis alone, it is somewhere I can see myself thriving.

Overall my experience on the scheme was very good. There was a good balance of talks, networking and substantive legal work. I enjoyed the work I was given and I found it challenging but rewarding.
I met some incredible people who have really inspired my career in law and given me some valuable advice.
